An Entertainer’s Paradise
Contemporary makeover for 60s Classic
Kwila timber and clean lines revivify this classic Keith Hay home with a modern and warm finish.
Scope
Lee Brothers Cabinets and Joinery were commissioned by our client to build a kitchen made for entertaining. The design had been crafted by Jenny Spellman, and one of its intriguing aspects was that the kitchen would need to flow from the new entrance way with the use of timber and be cohesive between the two projects. This required our expert input into the final design.
Challenges
The home was an original Keith Hay built in the 1960s that had gone through many a renovation in the past. It was now due for a major facelift to bring the home into the 21st Century, with a contemporary twist. The client wished to have a beautiful kitchen that would disappear at the end of a meal, and then be able to be used for entertaining and socialising with guests.
Special features
Clean lines and clever use of colours have rejuvenated the kitchen. From sleek stainless-steel fittings and granite benchtops to the extendable timber breakfast bar, the kitchen has become contemporary yet timeless.
Highlights
The stunning kwila timber veneer used on the tall cupboards matches the new timber entrance way and creates a cohesive, inviting feel. An unusual dark green granite adds a splash of refined colour to the benchtop, and the use of natural woods means this kitchen should last for decades more to come.
Feedback
Our client was ecstatic with the resulting functionality and look. The kitchen was also a finalist in the 2019 Master Joiners Awards for both Best Kitchen and Best Use of Imported Timber.
